Hard-Won Lessons:
Product development hit a critical roadblock when our manufacturing partner revealed significant capability limitations that hadn't been disclosed during initial assessments. Instead of settling for lower quality or facing a 4-5 month delay, I quickly developed a two-track approach. We kept working with the original manufacturer on the parts they could handle well, while I found and onboarded a new partner for the critical components. The challenge was creating detailed specifications that could be handed off between manufacturers while protecting our intellectual property. By breaking down the production into modules and being clear about exactly what we needed from each partner, we managed to launch just 3 weeks behind schedule with better quality than we originally planned for. This taught me the importance of testing manufacturing capabilities early with actual production samples and creating thorough documentation that isn't tied to a single supplier.
